eBGP Neighbors

The physical topology between eBGP peers is usually a single link of a connection between two different companies with different autonomous systems.  Because this is usually the link, the interface IP is best to be used for this type of neighborship.

Even though the remote eBGP peer is on a connected port, you still have to configure the eBGP neighborship without it BGP will not accept any BGP messages from that peer, nor will it attempt to connect to that peer on its own.
