EIGRP Classic Metrics

EIGRP uses several component metrics to calculate the distance to a network and ultimately the best path to that network.  The classic metrics include the following:

  • Bandwidth
  • Delay
  • Reliability
  • Load
  • MTU
  • Hop Count

The first four components are used and combined using a well known formula to produce a single number that will distinguish the composite metric of a route…which is then used to determine the best path to a destination.

Classic Metrics are supported by all current EIGRP implementations.
