EIGRP Classic Metrics: Hop Count

the hop count is simply a counter of routers in the path toward a destination.  It is simply a fallback security measure, which can advertise a route over a predefined hop count threshold as unreachable breaking any routing loops.

by default the threshold is 100 and can be configured anywhere between 1 and 255.  Hop count is not factored into the composite metric and does not impact the best path decision in any way.
